Q: What is a bail bond?
A bail bond is a contractual undertaking guaranteed by a state licensed bail agent who is backed by an insurance company. The bail agent guarantees to the court that the defendant will be present at all court proceedings and will pay the full amount of the bond if the defendant fails to appear for these scheduled court appearances. For your protection, always deal with a licensed bail bond company.
Q: My Friend or Relative was arrested… now what do I do?
First of all, don’t worry. We are professional bail bondsmen and we will get them out quickly. Next, pick up the phone and give us a call so we can get the bail process going. Please have the person’s name and jail location handy. If you don’t know the jail name we can probably look it up for you. Once we have this information we’ll contact the jail to verify the bail bond details. Before we can post the bail bond to the jail we’ll have you fill out and sign a few documents. We generally do this in person at our office but we can come to you in most cases. If you are outside the area, you may bail by fax and Internet.
Our forms are online for immediate download.Once the documentation is all taken care of we send a bail bondsmen to the jail to post the bond and your loved one is usually released within a couple of hours. That’s really all there is to it. See our section on “How Bail Works“. After the defendant’s release, we ask that they contact our office so that he/she may also complete some paperwork and so that we may explain what what happens next and what their obligations are to us as far as bail is concerned.
Q: After I show up for the first court appearance am I done?
Not yet…The terms of bail state that the defendant must be present for all of the court appearances until the case is concluded and the bond is exonerated. Otherwise, they are considered in violation of their bail. Be sure to show up until the end of the case.
